CAIRO: There was an unprecedented number of women, especially those wearing the niqab (head and face cover), in Tahrir Square today. Islamists allocated special places for women near platforms to enable them to participate in what they called the 'Islamic million man demonstration.' In front of the Islamic platforms, the demonstrators raised the Quran (the Islamic holy book) and banners that called to correct false concepts, revive the Islamic heritage, achieve development in different fields, reject a civil state, exempt all political prisoners, and that refused the articles that were placed above the constitution by the ruling military council. The demonstrators chanted 'Allah Akbar' (God above all), "No for the above constitutional principles,' and 'the people want to remove corruption from the country.' Public transportation in Cairo was very crowded on Friday because of the increasing number of participants from Cairo and different governorates.
