Vice Chairman of City Bank: Egyptian accounts are secure
Published in Youm7 on 26 - 07 - 2011

CAIRO: All accounts and balances' data and information of Citibank's clients in Egypt are unexposed to any other breaches from hackers.
Citibank Egypt is continuing to expand its activities in, Egypt Vice Chairman of Citibank Egypt, Lamis Negm, told Youm7 in an interview.
Negm said IT administrators in Citibank in North America perform routine surveillance.
They reveal a hacker infiltrated the system but did not affect Citibank clients in Egypt.
"We applied many modifications to the system to prevent any similar incidents and only penetrate a limited number, 1 percent, of customer accounts are online. There was no hacking of the main system or at other locations of the bank,” Negm said.
She stressed the information was found in the name and account number and means of communication, including e-mail address. But the Social Security number, date of birth, expiry date and verification code from the card could not be tracked or accessed.
The Bank contacted customers who were affected and they changed their own cards. She added many of preventive measures were set to prevent any intrusion again.
Negm discussed the features of the expansion plan and strategy for Citibank after the January 25 revolution. She said Citibank is committed to the Egyptian banking market and will continue to invest.
Egypt is one of the major markets of Citigroup's global financial area and will remain so since the bank continues to pursue growth plans and meets the requirements of its customers and serve them as it has since 1975.
Negm told Youm7 about a range of new services developed at Citibank, including two new types of credit cards.
