CAIRO: Clashes in Cairo's Abbasiya neighborhood prevented a march of demonstrators from Tahrir Square from reaching the Ministry of Defense. Military police closed all entries to Abbasiya with seven tanks and vehicles with water hoses. The demonstrators from Tahrir chanted slogans such as, “Down down with the ruling military council.” Abbasiya citizens reportedly responded by saying, “The army and the people are one hand” in rejection of the protesters' chants. In response to the local residents, the Tahrir demonstrators chanted, “People of Abbasiya, this march is peaceful.”
