CAIRO: Egypt's ruling military council says the April 6 Youth movement aims to create strife between the Egyptian people and the army. The council released statement No. 69 on its Facebook page in response to yesterday's events. “We believe in communicating with the great Egyptian people and the revolution's youth,” said the statement. “Steps to achieve the legal demands of the January 25 Revolution have been carried out recently. However, carrying out these steps oppose the personal interests of some political movements that have special agendas. These movements began inciting strife between the people and the armed forces," it continued. The statement went on to say that allegations of using violence “to face protesters in Suez, Ismailia or any other city are completely untrue.” Rumors of military violence against demonstrators in those cities led to a strengthening of protest movements in Cairo. “The April 6 Youth movement aims to create trouble between the people and the army,” the statement said. “However, it failed because of the recent procedures which were carried out.” The statement also calls on Egyptians from all groups to be cautions and not to fall for plans aiming to reduce Egypt's stability. The military called on Egyptians to oppose such plans. For its part, the April 6 movement denied the charges and rejected all content in statement No. 69. The group denounced the attempt to defame the group, which has been one of the strongest and most active opposition movements in Egypt since 2008. The group said it is waiting for the military council to quickly implement to revolution's demands. The movement's statement, issued this morning, confirmed that they are part of the national forces. The group said it expresses the hopes and ambitions of the Egyptian street without thinking about any personal interests. The group also confirmed the right of peaceful protests for all Egyptians. “No one can take this right,” they said.
