Abu Dhabi Film Festival announced a launch to celebrate the commemoration of Naguib Mahfouz's 100-year anniversary. Abu Dhabi Festival will be screening eight movies based on his literary work during the festival's fifth session on October 13 until October 22 2011. Abu Dhabi Festival will publish a study about Naguib Mahfouz and cinema, it will hold an exhibition with his movie's posters, and it will have dialogue to discuss his relation with cinema. The director of special projects in Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage Association, Isa Mazrui, thanked the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and Cinema and the National Center of Cinema in Egypt for their cooperation. Naguib Mahfouz's festival celebrations will enable movie and book lovers in United Arab Emirates to enjoy the works of one of the greatest Egyptian authors. Naguib Mahfouz was a great Egyptian author. He wrote more than 150 literary works and received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1989. He died in 2006. The executive director of the festival, Peter Scarlett, said Mahfouz's works present a unique document about Egyptian life during the nineteenth century.
