Seventy-five solar powered streetlights have been installed in Nour el-Din Street in Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Gamal Mahdy told Youm7. This is the first stage of installing solar-powered lights, and they cost nearly 2 million EGP (U.S. $340,000). The project will continue until solar-powered streetlights are used in all the city's main roads to take advantage of solar energy, said Mahdy, adding that the average temperature in the city in 35 degrees Celsius. Mahdy said the intention is to shift Sharm el-Sheikh into a green city with no pollution, as solar energy is clean.
