Three thousand supporters of Hamdeen Sabbahi, a likely presidential candidate and head of the Nasserist al-Karama Party, met at a conference yesterday in the city of Teema in Sohag governorate. Sabbahi said that if he were to win the presidency, his first decision would be to stop exporting gas to Israel and help the Arab liberation movements. Sabbahi announced his support for all Arab liberation movements, particularly those in Syria and Palestine. He discussed how he will restore Egypt to its regional role and international status. He said he will work to achieve social justice and said the individual is entitles to a fair share of the wealth of the nation through the liberalization of the Egyptian economy from corruption and by putting Egypt on the path to comprehensive development. Sabbahi said he supports building a democratic political system through a new constitution that guarantees freedoms and supports the civil state.
