The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) welcomed the decision of Egypt's Public Prosecutor to refer former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, his sons, and the businessman Hussein Salem to the Criminal Court with accusations of killing peaceful demonstrators. The organization viewed the decision as a response to the recommendations it issued along with Egypt's National Council for Human Rights on March 23. The two organizations formed a fact-finding mission that confirmed the criminal responsibility of Mubarak for killing the demonstrators. AOHR considered the decision an important step towards prosecuting former regime figures. The organization demanded the public prosecutor, the justice minister and the Higher Judiciary Council to allow public hearings to ensure a fair trial. They also demanded allowing the human rights organizations to follow the sessions. The organization expressed its concern over the information that circulated recently over procedural problems that could void the prosecution the Egyptian people look towards in achieving justice and the objectives of the January 25 Revolution, which aimed to achieve freedom, dignity and justice. The organization called on Egyptian citizens to testify before the investigations authority. It expressed its readiness to receive testimonies through the open forum launched in April.
