CAIRO: Ambassador Mohamed al-Orabi confirmed that he will become Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs. He will be sworn in on Sunday in front of Marshal Mohamed Hussien Tantawi, the leader of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). The new Minister said he will depend on soft diplomacy based on Egypt's historical and cultural position. Egypt's position, he said, enables it to establish strong ties with countries all over the world. He said the Foreign Ministry's main role is to protect the interests of Egyptians living abroad as well as improve Egypt's relations with countries all over the world. Al-Orabi will lead Egypt's diplomatic institution after his predecessor Dr. Nabil al-Arabi, who will instead take office as the Secretary General of the Arab League on July 1.
