Greek authorities have deported 90 Egyptians. They were arrested on June 11, 2011 after their boat sunk on south end of Crete, a Greek island. They were trying to sail to Italy for illegal migration. The Greek authorities permitted the release of 90, out of 94 Egyptian migrants, instead of making them stand trial. The first deported group will include 22 Egyptians. They will be deported to Egypt on Monday. Meanwhile the boat's crew, consisting of four sailors, will stand trial for charges of smuggling people to Greece. "European countries criminalize illegal migration and condemn those managing it," said Ambassador Mohamed Abdel Hakam, Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians abroad assistant. Abdel Hakam added, "The punishment for illegal migration includes prison, bail and deportation according to rules of European countries.”
