A campaign to gain one million signatures supporting the repossession of Sinai lands to the Bedouins began today. The campaign aims to help Bedouins reclaim lands from the usufruct system. “A big campaign is being held,” said Ammar Gauda, the Sinai development minister in the January 25 youth shadow ministry. “It aims to collect one million signatures to support engineer Hamdy Fakharany, who defends the right of Sinai inhabitants to possess their lands against the administrative court,” Gauda added. Fakharany has been invited to visit North Sinai Governorate within the framework of a grassroots campaign to collect one million signatures from people in North and South Sinai governorates. The campaign will begin with a ceremony held today at the Nile Media Center. Fakharany filed a lawsuit before the Administrative Court against the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Local Development, and the head of the Urban Communities Authority. He asked the court to return Sinai lands to their inhabitants and to record the lands in official records for their owners.
