JERUSALEM: The Israeli officer accused of spying for Israel's Mossad and inciting violence among the Egyptian people will be released within two weeks, said Israeli Channel 10. The news channel denied all Egyptian media reports about the General Prosecution's investigation with Ilan Grapel. It described the media reports as "baseless." The channel said it learned that top U.S. sources met with the accused in Cairo and that the Egyptian authorities would release Grapel within 15 days. It also said Grapel would not be prosecuted and would return back to his home in United States. The Israeli channel said that the accused is a U.S. citizen and that Egypt does not want to disturb Egyptian-American relations, thus Grapel will be released. The channel also claimed that Israeli Embassy representatives met with Grapel although Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi denied this report. Israeli Foreign Minister Avigador Lieberman said Tuesday that Grapel would be released as he has no link with Mossad or any intelligence agency on earth or even on Mars, according to the channel.
