Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has been accused of involvement in the 2005 bombings in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh. Lawyer Ahmed Abdel Atty filed a complaint against Mubarak as well as former interior minister Habib al-Adly. The complaint was transferred to Judge Hisham Badawi, the first general attorney for the prosecutions of the Supreme State Security. Documents were found in one of former the State Security Investigation headquarters indicating that Mubarak and al-Adly were prepared for the Sharm el-Sheikh explosions, which caused tens deaths and injuries in addition to impacting tourism. The complaint indicates that Mubarak and al-Adly arranged the bombing as a way of settling accounts with now-fugitive businessman Hussein Salem. Atty said that his client, taxi driver Hassan Mohamed, was badly injured in the explosions. Mohamed lost one of his eyes. Atty asked the attorney general to investigate his complaint and to punish those responsible for the explosions. At the time, the explosions were said to be the work of terrorists. After the fall of Mubarak, documents indicating the explosions were planned by the Mubarak family were revealed.
