Visitors to the Egyptian Museum are slowly increasing in number. The museum's director, Tareq al-Awadi, said visiting rates are finally increasing after the upheaval of Egypt's January 15 Revolution, which saw a drastic decrease in tourism. Around 1,200 tourists visit the museum every day, said Awadi, which is a good rate for the summer season. The highest tourist season for Egypt is during the winter, not the summer. Before the revolution, the average number of visitors to the museum was 2,000 daily. The first day the museum reopened after the revolution there were only 78 tourists. Awadi added that the decrease of the visiting average is normal, because Egyptian school exams are being held now. He also said Arab tourism is unusually decreased by around 60 percent, although this is usually the season for Arab tourists.
