A number of political and national powers organized the so-called "Constitution first Friday" in front of al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria today. The demonstration was to confirm the continuation of Egypt's January 25 Revolution. Alexandria's Democratic Civil Coalition, composed of 30 parties and movements, participated in the demonstrations. They distributed a statement to express their refusal of “wrong” concepts that are not related to the spirit of Islam and aim at intimidating citizens. The coalition members announced their desire to counter sectarian strife among Egyptian citizens and confirmed that the Egyptian people will remain as one country and one people regardless of religion. They demanded holding the next presidential elections through the proportional representation, refusing the new law of the People's Assembly which allows a closed list system. The protest expressed their desire to achieve all the objectives of the revolution. The demonstrators also demanded that a new constitution be formed before the next parliamentary elections to open the door for all parties and powers to participate in formulating the new constitution and to prevent specific political factions to monopolize drawing Egypt's future.
