CAIRO: The play ‘The World of Puppets' debuted as the first showing performed at Al-Phan Theatre after three years of suspension. High-profile Egyptian actor Salah al-Saadani and the prominent journalist, Amr Abdel Samie attended the opening of the ceremony. The show is directed by Galal al-Sharkawy and discusses the causes that fueled the January 25 revolution along with different issues that affected Egyptian citizens during the former regime. The show used the art of puppets, shadow play, and circus plays. The play existed before the January 25 Revolution but was suspended after the closure of the theatre in the wake of al-Sharkawy's crises with Cairo's governorate, Abdeen neighbor and the civil defense authority. The return of the play is a result of the Egyptian revolution to resume its shows while changing some of the plot to flow with real events. Al-Sharkawy attributed the re-opening of his theatre to the revolution, saying he managed to gain four judicial rules to re-open his theatre. The show increased its criticism against the former regime of the former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and discusses the crises that Egyptians faced in his tenure. Crises mentioned in the play included unemployment, bread crises, low-quality education, the ferry accident, corruption, and inflation. The show focuses and claims inheritance is the main reason for the January 25 revolution. Modern techniques and screens have been used to present the show.
