The U.S. will support any democratic government, elected by Egyptians as long as the government supports freedom, respects the principles of human rights and equality, said the U.S. Ambassador in Egypt, Margaret Scobey. In a response to how the U.S. would react if Islamists ruled Egypt, she stressed there is no fear as long as the Islamist government respected democracy and human rights. Scobey promised, during the opening of the Motorola building in the Smart Village, that the U.S. will increase its investments in Egypt. Investments will go especially into the telecommunication and information technology sectors simultaneously since Egypt is increasingly interested in achieving transparency and democracy. Egypt's Minister of Telecommunication said international companies' quest to expand their investments in Egypt reflects that the sector is on the right track. He said the sector can get more investments and consequently create new job opportunities.
