The lawyer for Hosni Mubarak said the wealth of Egypt's ousted president does not exceed U.S. $1 million. Defense lawyer Fareed al-Deeb added in statements on Sunday that Mubarak does not have any funds outside the country. In an interview with CNN, al-Deeb denied charges against Mubarak regarding illegal gains as president and denied that Mubarak gave orders to kill protesters during Egypt's January 25 Revolution, which led to Mubarak's ouster. Al-Deeb said Mubarak was overcome by grief due to these “false accusations.” Al-Deeb said Mubarak's wealth is about six million EGP (U.S. $1 million), which he saved through working for 62 years, and has no other funds inside or outside the country. Al-Deeb stressed that Mubarak does not have a single dollar outside Egypt. Al- Deeb said the former president is in poor health and needs help even using the bathroom in Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital. He is suffering from serious heart problems and does not watch television or any other media by doctors's orders, out of fear for his mental health, and he speaks very little. The Public Prosecution transferred Mubarak last week to the Criminal Court on charges of murdering protesters and corruption.
