U.S. President Barack Obama confirmed America's commitment to supporting Egypt's democracy during a meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf. The two men also discussed updating economic programs. The U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser, Ben Rhodes, said President Obama felt Sharaf's commitment to achieving political reform in Egypt. He added that they discussed the importance of achieving democratic reforms among which respecting the rights of minorities. The American officials made the declarations on the board of U.S. presidential aircraft which transferred the U.S. Barack Obama to Poland after his participation in the G8 summit. Rhodes said Obama held discussions also with the Tunisian Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi.
