LONDON: Egyptian gas export dealer Hussein Salem has left London and arrived in the Netherlands. Salem was involved in deals to illegally export gas to Israel. Salem is the Egyptian partner of Israeli businessman Yousef Maiman in the East Mediterranean Gas Company (EMG). Salem fled Egypt to escape prosecution because of illegal gas export to Israel and other corruption cases. There were rumors that Salem was to be assassinated last week. Fearing the rumors to be true, he fled Londom and arrived in Amsterdam under heavy guard of Lloyd's of London Co. Witnesses saw Salem in a café in Dam Square in Amsterdam. Salem, who owns a great number of hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh, left Egypt on February 3 to transit in Dubai then to London. Arabic here.
