CAIRO: A new Egypian law aimed to liberate non-governmental organizations from state control is in the works. The decision aims to give NGOs a chance to achieve their objectives. Egypt's Minister of Integration and Social Justice, Goda Abdel-Khalek, told Youm7 that he will focus on the relation between the government and NGOs. He said the state is still controlling these organizations, which creates a mixed entity. His example was the 10th of Ramadan investors' assembly, which he described as a forum of businessmen, not a NGO. Abdel-Khalek stressed the need to review the law of assemblies based on individual initiatives to achieve the public interest. Arabic here.
