CAIRO: An agreement to teach Spanish classes at the American University of Cairo has been signed by the university's college of continuing education and the Cervantes Institute. Carmen Cafferel, manager of the Cervantes Institute, signed the agreement with Charles Norman, dean of the college. Fidel Sindazhurta, Spain's ambassador to Egypt, attended the signing of the agreement. Cafferel emphasized the importance of such an agreement for both the institute and AUC, as both focus on educational and cultural exchange. She expressed her hope that cooperation will continue as both Cervantes and AUC deal with education as a permanent constructive process. She added that learning the Spanish language helps rapprochement of peoples and cultures, especially there are around 450 million Spanish speakers in the world. Ambassador Sindazhurta said both institutions focus on spreading culture, teaching languages and developing the educational standard of students. He described both Cervantes and AUC as important institutions in Egypt.
