CAIRO: Securing Fatimid Cairo and the Great Pyramids are the top priorities of the Ministry of Antiquities, said Zahi Hawass, the ministry's head. Hawass said he agreed with Minister of Interior Mansour el-Essawy that there is a necessity to restore security in Muez Street, Khan al-Khalili, and the Pyramids area on the Giza plateau. Hawass raised the necessity of securing such important historic and cultural places in a meeting at the Ministry of Interior. Hawass also talked about his project to develop the area around the Giza pyramids. He said his project takes into account the hawkers and plans to maintain their habitat and turning it to a civilized area that will be compatible with the rest of Egypt.
