Ahli football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz says that an extraordinary sanction against Masri would be part of the retribution required after the Port-Said tragedy. Egyptian football was rocked by the disastrous events that marred Ahli's league game at Masri on February 1, with more than 75 supporters losing their lives at Port-Said Stadium. With all domestic competitions consequently suspended, Ahli insist on the righteous retribution before considering the resumption of football activity. Action against Masri, not Port-Said
Abdul-Hafiz and Abou-Treika with one of the victims' relative “We are currently focused on the African Champions League, but I think there are conditions to restart the domestic competition,” former Ahli star Abdul-Hafiz told Modern Kora TV. “The Port-Said events consist of two issues. First there is a criminal factor related to the police and there is a managerial one where Masri club are responsible. “What happened was an extraordinary incident which has no sporting rules designed to act against. Therefore the action must be extraordinary. “We refuse to entirely blame the city of Port-Said, but whoever is found guilty among Masri fans should be punished, in addition to a severe sanction against the club. “When fans used to light canisters, clubs were punished by playing away from home, so how about killing the visiting supporters?”
