S. Africa disappointed by Egypt decision
Published in FilGoal on 22 - 08 - 2011

South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane revealed his dismay by Egypt's decision to continue the rest of the CAN 2012 qualifiers with the Olympic team.
Having virtually no hopes of reaching the finals, bottom-of-the-group Egypt are set to face Sierra Leone and Niger with the second team, leaving the latter duo to battle it out with leaders South Africa.
Even though Bafana Bafana will almost seal qualification if they beat Niger in Niamey next month, Mosimane doesn't seem to swallow the decision made by the Egyptian FA ahead of the Sierra Leone visit.
The pride of Egypt
“It really doesn't affect us much because even if they were using their strongest side we still have a job to do for ourselves, we still have to win our matches,” the South Africa boss said.
“The bottom line is that qualifying for the CAN 2012 tournament is in our hands, irrespective of what the others teams do.

Mosimane
“But at the same time it is amazing and disappointing at how Egypt looks at the CAN qualifiers with two matches to go.
“We are talking about the Kings of Africa here, where's the pride of Egypt?
“We don't want to discredit their Under 23 squad but sending them to Freetown and then to host Niger looks like a donation of six points.
“Niger and Sierra Leone have to face us so we will fight for our six points, we must just focus on what we have to do, and I believe we can get those points in those two matches.
“Egypt have a good crop of talented players who gave us a tough time in our two matches against them, so it surprises me that they have been left out even though the FA says its rebuilding its aging side.”
South Africa lead Group 7 on eight points, followed by Niger on six and Sierra Leone on five, while Egypt are languishing at the bottom with just two.
