Ahli succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Esperance in their second group-stage game of the CAF Champions League. Cameroonian striker Joseph Niang scored the only goal of the game after 14 minutes, heading home a corner from close range. The defeat puts Ahli in third place in Group B as Esperance move to second after Wydad Casablanca claimed top spot with an emphatic 4-0 win over MC Alger. It is the Egyptian champions' first defeat under Manuel Jose since the Portuguese returned for a third stint last December. Ahli had a poor first half which saw Jose take off defensive midfielder Shehab Ahmed for striker Geddo before half time. In the second half, the Reds played better with Mohamed Abou-Treika behind Emad Meteb and Geddo, but the Tunisians were too resilient at the back. Esperance skipper Oussama Darragi failed to double his side's lead after missing a second-half penalty, blasting wide from the spot.
