Egypt managed to hold Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their U-20 World Cup opener early on Saturday. Danilo put Brazil ahead in the 12th minute, when he towered to a corner-kick to head home from close range. Zamalek's Omar Gaber leveled 14 minutes later with a powerful shot from inside the box. The young Pharaohs had several chances to grab the lead but Mohamed Ibrahim, Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Hamdi were too wasteful. Earlier in Group E, Panama and Austria shared the spoils with a goalless draw.
