Ahli defense star Wael Gomaa says that the Reds took their chances well to snatch a seventh straight league title from the grasp of arch-rivals Zamalek. Despite leading the table for most of the season, Zamalek missed out on the title relinquishing a six-point lead to Ahli, who are now ahead by seven with one week left. “Zamalek missed more than one chance to win the title, but we didn't,” Gomaa, who scored the opener in Thursday's decisive victory over Arab Contractors, said. “We made good use of our experience to deal with some difficult matches decisively, and this secured the victory for us. “We dedicate this triumph for our great fans who were always there for us throughout the season.” Paid no attention Football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz also implied that the champions were lifted for paying little attention to their rivals, who were in charge of the table for long spells. “The reason why won this title is that we didn't pay much attention to others and we only focused on improving our team,” Abdul-Hafiz, who was appointed in November, said. “When Ahli win, it is a victory for the club. That's why everyone who contributed deserves credit. I mean Hossam Al-Badri, Zizo and then Manuel Jose.” Ahli started the season with Al-Badri in charge as Zizo took the helm temporarily until Jose returned to the team's bench in December.
