Ittihad fans have invaded the Alexandria Stadium pitch shortly before the final whistle of their clash with relegation rivals Wadi Degla on Wednesday. The hosts' 29th minute lead through Ahmed Galal was cancelled out by Mostafa Talaat just before the break as Alaa Issa completed Degla's comeback in injury time. But the goal was soon followed by uncontrollable chaos from the home fans, who went onto the pitch to attack their own players, while others vandalized the stadium's seats. A victory for Ittihad would have significantly boosted their survival chances as they lie second from bottom on 19 points, four off the safety zone. Victory for Degla Following the incident, Degla are likely to be considered winners according to Egyptian FA competitions committee chief Amer Hussein. “According to the rules, Degla should be considered winners with a 2-0 victory,” Hussein told FilGoal.com. “The referee was not even given a chance for the final whistle and his assistant was injured during the events.” It is the first time that a pitch invasion incident has occurred in the Egyptian Premier League.
