Qatar's World Cup bid blocked Zamalek-Yasser settlement
Published in FilGoal on 04 - 12 - 2010

Qatar's 2022 World Cup bid prevented Hussein Yasser from resolving his dispute with Zamalek, the Qatari attacking midfielder said on Saturday.
Yasser incurred the wrath of Zamalek when he went AWOL and played with Qatar in the Gulf Cup of Nations without the club's consent.
Zamalek were due to file a complaint against Qatar for fielding him in the regional tournament, which is not included in FIFA's international calendar, but the Qatar Football Association vowed to pay the Cairo giants $100,000 in compensation.
However, Zamalek said later that Qatar, who were eliminated from the Gulf Cup's group stage, did not live up to their pledge.
"The Qatari officials told me that they reached an agreement with Zamalek over my participation in the tournament," Yasser told Dream TV.
"But they were busy achieving the World Cup dream for the country, that's why they were not focused on the Zamalek saga.
"I'm sure that they will resolve that problem in the next few days."
Qatar were awarded the rights to host the 2022 World Cup after overcoming Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United States in last Thursday's FIFA executive committee vote.
Yasser is currently suffering from a shoulder injury that requires surgery but he said he was ready to play through the pain barrier to avoid missing some crucial games for his club and country.
"Any surgery will sideline me for a long time, I don't want that in such a vital stage of the season," he added.
"I want to play against Ahli (in the Cairo derby on December 31) and the AFC Asian Cup (which will take place from January 7-29)."
