Police Union squandered a chance to reclaim top spot in the Egyptian Premier League after being held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Smouha on Friday. Leaders Zamalek paved the way for Police to regain their position on the summit when they conceded a last-gasp goal to draw 2-2 at Gaish on Thursday. But this season's surprise package surprisingly failed to overcome a Smouha side that have failed to register any win so far this season. Midfielder Mohamed Al-Fayoumi put Police in front after 17 minutes with a precise finish after a back-heel assist from striker Salah Ashour. But Ahmed Ahmoudi needed four minutes to level the score with a deft back-heel from close range. Police's hopes of claiming all three points were dealt a blow when tough-tackling midfielder Ayman Saied, who is known for his rash challenges, received a red card nine minutes past the hour mark. "I don't know why the referees are treating me that way. I will suffer a heart attack because of their unfair treatment," Saied said after the game. "If I was playing for Ahli or Zamalek I wouldn't have received that amount of red cards." Police slipped to fourth spot in the league table with 16 points, two behind Zamalek. Defending champions Ahli, who have 17 points, will move top if they win their games in hand.
