Gomaa promises better defense
Published in FilGoal on 16 - 10 - 2010

Ahli center-back Wael Gomaa says the Red Devils' defenders will avoid the mistakes they made in the 2-1 home win over Esperance in the CAF Champions League.
The Cairo giants took a two-goal advantage in the first leg of the semi-finals before the Tunisian side pulled one back to leave their opponents with a tough mission in their away match.
Esperance captain Oussama Darragi made the most of a blunder from keeper Sherif Ekrami to reduce the arrears, capitalizing on Ahli's poor marking in the area as well.
Gomaa admitted that the rearguard was to blame for the goal Ahli conceded but assured his fellow defenders will redeem themselves in Sunday's game.
"Esperance's goal was scored because the positions of our defenders were all wrong," the Egypt international told FilGoal.com.
"As individuals, we were good enough to stop their strikers and we can do it again in Tunisia.
"However, their aerial prowess gives them superiority in set-pieces. We need to pay attention to that.
"I sat down with the defenders and emphasized on the importance of avoiding confusion in aerial challenges, and that's what we will do.
"I told them that the edge of the area is our goal-line. It's going to be a pulstating match but we are confident that we can qualify for the final."
Six-time African champions Ahli, who reached the Champions League final five times in the last six years, need to beat Esperance by any scoreline to go through.
