All the Egyptian Premier League contenders are afraid of current leaders Police Union, who are trying to capitalize on their opponents' fear to promote themselves, according to head coach Talaat Youssef. Police, who secured their first-ever top-flight promotion in the summer of 2008, have been gradually improving over the past couple of years. This term, the interior ministry side had their best start yet to a league campaign, with an unbeaten run that includes four victories and three draws. In their last win, Youssef's men overturned a one-goal deficit to defeat Ismaili 2-1 and claim all three points, which left them unopposed on top of the league table. When asked about his team's scintillating form after the hard-fought victory, Youssef spoke highly of Police. "All teams are now afraid of Police," he told Egyptian Radio. "The high-profile sides and the minnows are scared of us, thanks to the consistent performances we have been putting in since last season. "We have a chance to pull off more impressive results because we are fearsome now." Starless Team Youssef, who took charge of Police in 2008, put his outfit's tangible progress down to teamwork. Police's Minusu Buba hit a brace against Ismaili on Friday to snatch a late victory; even so; Youssef refused to give the Nigerian hitman credit for the win.
Buba "Individual efforts don't culminate in Police winning games. We are a starless team," he explained. "We always depend on teamwork. "Buba is just a tool that converts chances carved out by the whole team. We don't rely on any star no matter how imposing he is. "He (Buba) wouldn't have scored the first if Essam Abdul-Aati hadn't passed the ball to him. The second goal is also from a follow-up effort after a shot from Reda Al-Azab." Top Spot Unimportant Curiously, the 55-year-old tactician revealed that staying at the league summit is not among his priorities. "Keeping the top spot is unimportant. What really matters is the consistency of the team's form," Youssef said. "This kind of stability will help us to good results, which will eventually lead us to a satisfying position." High Level of Fitness Police's 'high level of fitness' was also cited by Youssef as another reason why his side are commendable this term. "The physical capabilities and fitness are important to any team," Youssef, who used to be a prominent Police player in the 1970s, stated. "I'm always keen to maintain Police's high level of fitness."
