Zamalek's former playmaker and current board member Hazem Emam launched a scathing attack on Ittihad forward Mohamed Nagi 'Geddo' on Thursday for opting to join Ahli. Egyptian champions Ahli reached an agreement with Alexandria-based club Ittihad to sign Geddo for EGP seven million plus out-of-favor duo Hani Al-Egeizi and Ahmed Ali. Zamalek said earlier this year that the Egypt forward signed a contract with them before extending his deal with Ittihad. They were expected to launch a legal battle to acquire his services in the close season but were stunned after their arch-rivals Ahli stepped in to snap him up from under their noses. "I objected to signing Geddo from the very beginning because I'm not convinced that he is good enough to play for Zamalek," Emam, a hugely popular figure among the White Knights' fans, wrote in his column in Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper "He played well with the Egyptian national team, but why did he fail to replicate that form on the club level?" Not Honored Geddo rose to prominence after producing a string of impressive displays in Egypt's triumphant African Cup of Nations Campaign in January.
Geddo's destination remains unclear He scored five goals as a substitute to finish as the tournament's top scorer and help the Pharaohs clinch their third successive continental title. "We will not be honored if a player such as Geddo played for us after deceiving two clubs," Emam added. "The player admitted that he signed for Zamalek and Ittihad at the same time but he was not subjected to any sanctions. "We will pursue our rights in this saga." The Egyptian FA said they were still waiting for Zamalek to present the documents which prove that Geddo has signed a contract with them. Ittihad insist that the 26-year-old, who could not impress in the Egyptian Premier League after returning from international duty in Angola, belongs to them. Ahli, who are known for their calm approaches to such controversial matters, are yet to make any comments.
