Preview: African duo in dire need of miracles
Published in FilGoal on 22 - 06 - 2010

African pair South Africa and Nigeria need nothing less than miracles in order to reach the World Cup round of 16.
Hosts South Africa, who lie fourth in Group A with a single point, will clash with France in their last group stage match. Les Bleus are third with as many points.
Uruguay and Mexico, who lie first and second respectively, face each other on the same day. Either team have to lose in order for France and South Africa to stand any chance to snatch second spot.
In Group B, Nigeria, who lost their first couple of matches, could reach the last 16 only if they beat South Korea.
Argentina, who have already booked their place in the next round, also have to defeat Greece to gift Lars Lagerback's side a ticket.
France V South Africa
Team news:
France striker Nicolas Anelka will miss the game after being kicked out of the squad for insulting his coach Raymond Domenech.
His teammates boycotted training a couple of days before their match with South Africa in protest against the Chelsea man elimination, but returned in action on Monday.
At the other end, South Africa's Kagisho Dikgacoi and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune have been ruled out through suspension.
What they said:
"There will be five changes in the team," South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira told reporters.
"We will do everything individually and also in a collective spirit to ensure that France regains its honour with a positive performance on Tuesday," a statement by France's players read.
Player to watch:
France: Franck Ribery has one last chance to redeem himself in the World Cup after putting in below-par performances in the last two matches.
South Africa: Golden boy Steven Pienaar is yet to make an impact with the hosts. The match is his golden chance to do so.
Nigeria V South Korea

Team news:
Nigeria will have to do without winger Taye Taiwo who sustained a groin injury.
His replacement Uwa Echiejile is also unfit so the Super Eagles will have to play without a recognized left-back.
South Korea are likely to deploy Park Chu-young as a lone striker while Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung will be feeding him.
What they said:
"I've never experienced that before, that you have two losses and yet still have a chance to go through," Nigeria boss Lagerback told FIFA's official site.
"Some people are talking about a draw being enough, but we want to win," South Korean midfielder Kim Jung-Woo said.
"We must try not to concede a goal, especially early on, and we'll have to be highly organised from the very start to the finish."
Player to watch:
Nigeria: Vincent Eneyama, one of the best custodians in Africa, has been the most impressive among his teammates so far in the World Cup.
South Korea: Park Ji-sung remains the most imposing player in the South Korean squad.
Mexico V Uruguay
Team news:
Mexico's Carlos Vela suffers a hamstring problem which could keep him on the sidelines.
On the other hand, Uruguay winger Nicolas Lodeiro is ready to get back in action back after suspension.
What they said:
"Do I prefer to avoid Argentina or face them in the next round? It doesn't matter. We are mentally strong enough to beat anyone," said Mexico veteran Cuauhtemoc Blanco.

"Of course, we go out to try and win and we certainly aren't going to come to any agreement with Mexico or do anything illegal," Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez stated.
Player to watch:
Mexico: A lot is expected from Javier Hernandez, who scored against France.
Uruguay: in-form hitman Diego Forlan is definitely the man to watch.
Greece V Argentina
Team news:
Juan Veron is available for Argentina after recovering from a calf injury while defender Walter Samuel is expected to be benched as he has just recuperated from a thigh strain.
Jonas Gutierrez is suspended and Nicolas Otamendi should deputize in his absence. Back-up strikers Diego Milito and Sergio Aguero may also take part in the game.
Greece will probably field the same line up that downed Nigeria.
What they said:
"Messi will play, because he always wants to play and I love that. When I told him, he was super happy," Argentina coach Diego Maradona said.
"We had been thinking of giving him a rest but to have a player of the class of Leo, the best in the world by a long way without doubt, it would have been a sin not to give him to the team, to the people, not give ourselves (the pleasure)."
"Argentina are a top-class team, far superior to Greece. They will clearly be better than us and we have got to see how to cope with them," Greece tactican Otto Rehhagel stated.
"We all know the Argentine team is of extraordinary quality but we are happy to have a chance to qualify."
Player to watch:
Greece: Theofanis Gekas is the most celebrated in his team.
Argentina: Gonzalo Higuain has been the only player to bag a hat-trick in the 2010 World Cup so far. He's the current top scorer too.
