Zamalek are scuppering Ibrahim Ayew's chances of earning a Ghana call up for the summer's World Cup finals in South Africa, the versatile midfielder said on Wednesday. Ayew has struggled to play regular football since joining Zamalek last summer. He was part of the Ghana side who finished runners up to champions Egypt in the African Cup of Nations in January but could not break into Zamalek's first team following the tournament. To rub salt into the wound, he was suspended by coach Hossam Hassan for storming out of the team's training camp after being left out of the squad for last month's Cairo derby against arch-rivals Ahli. "(Midfielder) Ahmed Al-Merghani was also punished for the same action, but his suspension was lifted today. I was not given the same treatment, I'm still suspended," Ayew told FilGoal.com. "Zamalek also prevented me from joining a Finnish club, a move which would have safeguarded my World Cup chances. "The Finnish club made their offer in February but Zamalek waited until the end of the transfer deadline in Finland to accept it." Ayew's current deal with the Cairo giants will expire in 2014 but it seems unlikely that he will stay put beyond this season.
