Napoli to decide on Shikabala deal after CAN
Published in FilGoal on 08 - 01 - 2010

Napoli are seriously seeking to land Shikabala this winter, but they will be watching the Zamalek winger during the African Cup of Nations (CAN) to further assess him, said Italian agent Francesco Musarra.
Shikabala's agent Ahmed Soweilam revealed on Thursday that the Serie A club were set to make a €3million offer for the 23-year-old in the current transfer window.
Soweilam stressed that Napoli have made up their mind about the deal, but Musarra, who represents the Italian side in the negotiations, assured that a final decision is yet to be made.
"Napoli's officials have been keeping tabs on Shikabala for quite a while, and they are impressed with his displays," Musarra told FilGoal.com.
"But they want to see him perform with Egypt in Angola before completing the deal."
Musarra contradicted Soweilam once again when he stated that Napoli are yet to purpose a transfer fee.
"The transfer fee should be determined once Napoli have decided to wrap up the deal," he said.
More Suitors
Musarra says there are other Italian clubs who were attracted by Shikabala's talent, but refused to name any of them.
"Shikabala has more Italian suitors, but Napoli are the closest to signing him," he added.
The midfield wizard spent two seasons in Greece with PAOK Saloniki before his Europe spell came to an abrupt end in 2006 due to a legal dispute with Zamalek.
He has scored two goals for the White Knights so far this term, and is considered to be a key member of Hossam Hassan's selection.
Shikabala, who has only 10 Egypt caps and scored only once on the international stage, was called up to the Pharaohs' CAN squad and is expected to be given a starting role in the biennial competition.
The versatile midfielder will be the fourth Egyptian player to have plied his trade in Italy should the Napoli deal go through.
Zamalek legend Hazem Emam had a stint at Udinese, while Hani Saied once joined Bari.
Towering striker Mido also had a short spell at Roma.
