TP Mazembe Englebert of DR Congo won the African Champions League after beating Nigeria's Heartland 1-0 to clinch the title on the away-goal rule on Saturday. Trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Nigeria, Mazembe needed a sole goal to lift the trophy of Africa's premier club competition. They wasted a host of clear-cut chances in the first half but their pressure finally paid dividends on 74 minutes when an own goal from Heartland defender Victor Ezuruike gifted them the opener. Matters went from bad to worse for Heartland late in the game when Emeka Nwanna received a red card for a crude challenge on an opponent. Mazembe, who last won the competition in 1968, held onto their narrow lead for their third Champions League triumph in history. They booked a place in next month's FIFA Club World Cup that will take place in United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi.
