Harras Hodoud eased into the CAF Confederation Cup third round after beating El-Gawafel Sportives de Gafsa (EGSG) 3-1 in Tunisia to complete a 6-1 aggregate victory. The Egyptian Cup winners faced no difficulty in brushing aside EGSG away from home in the second-leg of the competition's second round. In-form striker Ahmed Abdul-Ghani put the visitors in front as early as the sixth minute with a deft header after connecting with a right-wing cross. Attacking midfielder Ahmed Eid doubled Hodoud's advantage seven minutes later with a low shot from inside the area to finish off a swift counter attack. An own goal by EGSG defender Hafez Al-Zeitouni on 78 minutes gifted Hodoud a third goal. The hosts scored a consolation through Nabil Missaoui's penalty four minutes from time. Hodoud will play another two-legged tie in the next round and if they overcome their opponent, who is yet to be determined, they will reach the Confederation Cup group stage. Tarek Al-Ashri's side, who claimed their first title in history after overcoming ENPPI in the Egyptian Cup final earlier this year, are having a season to remember. They lie third in the Egyptian Premier League table with 49 points and still have a chance of earning a historic place in the CAF Champions League. Hodoud are five points behind second-placed Ahli, the team whom they face later this month, with three matches to go.
