Mido is undergoing an individual training program with Wigan in an attempt to improve his poor fitness level. Wigan assistant coach Eric Black revealed that the Egypt striker is struggling with fitness, thanks to a string of injury problems in recent years. "For Mido the unfortunate thing is that in the past two or three years he's been stuck in a cycle of not playing regularly through injuries and that obviously affects your fitness," said Eric Black. "We've a program in place for him now which he goes through during the week, which he's happy with, and hopefully it will get him back to being the top footballer he is. "It's a lot more intense the training he does so he'll have a full day with the fitness coach some days, and others spent with the rest of the team. "He's working really hard to keep improving so you have to give him credit for that." Even though he underwent a severe fitness program in pre-season with Boro, overweight has often been one of Mido's drawbacks throughout his career.
Mido worked hard in the summer with Boro The 25-year-old had to lose 10 Kilograms during a special program in Cairo with Boro fitness coach Nick Allamby last summer. Fighting Weight Wigan coach Steve Bruce implied that Mido should get better if he managed to reach the 'fighting weight'. The ex-Tottenham man has yet to score from open play since joining the Latics on loan from Middlesbrough in January, raising speculation of underachieving at JJB recently. However, Bruce believes that the towering frontman still has something to offer for his side, but only needs to improve his weight status. "Up front Mido will only get better – if we can get him fit and down to the fighting weight he should be at, we will be pleased," Bruce told the Evening Post. Egypt coach Hassan Shehata will be hoping to have Mido ready for the upcoming World Cup qualifier with Zambia on March 29th.
