Egypt coach Hassan Shehata selected seven foreign-based players for this month's World Cup qualifier with Zambia, excluding midfielder Hossam Ghaly. Despite returning to regular football with Saudi Arabia's Nasr, the former Tottenham Hotspur man was overlooked. Ghaly's Saudi-league associate Walid Soliman, who is on loan from Petrojet at Ahli Jeddah, was also snubbed. Other than that, the list did not include any surprises. Premiership trio Amr Zaki, Mido and Mohamed Shawky were expectedly recalled. Essam Al-Hadari, Mohamed Zidan, Hosni Abd-Rabou and Emad Meteb completed the seven-man list. The rest of the squad will be announced next weekend. Egypt will kickoff their qualifying campaign on the 29th of March, facing Zambia at Cairo Stadium.
