AC Milan were knocked out of the UEFA Cup after throwing away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home against Werder Bremen in the second-leg of the competition's round of 32. The Italian giants were eliminated on the away goals rule as the first-leg ended 1-1 in Germany. Milan's hopes of claiming silverware this season have all but demolished as they trail Serie A leaders Inter by 11 points. They also failed to get beyond the Italian Cup last-16 stage. Andrea Pirlo put the seven-time European champions in front with a 27th-minute penalty. Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato extended the lead six minutes later with a stunning thunderous shot from the edge of the area. Bremen had to thank Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro for their stunning progress after he scored twice in the second half. Pizarro, who is on loan from Chelsea, reduced the arrears in the 68th minute when he rose above Gianluca Zambrotta at the near post to head home Diego's free-kick. He once again capitalized on Milan's slack marking to power a header past Milan keeper Dida with 12 minutes remaining after meeting a cross at the far post. Watch the match's goals
