Amr Zaki failed to end his goal drought as Wigan Athletic and Middlesbrough played out a dull goalless draw at the Riverside in the Premiership on Saturday. The Egyptian international was deployed as a lone striker but he struggled to make an impact. He was booked ten minutes after the restart for a foul on Middlesbrough defender Justin Hoyte. Zaki was substituted in the 75th minute, making way for French forward Antoine Sibierski. The combative striker, who joined Wigan from Zamalek on a season-long loan last summer, scored ten league goals for Steve Bruce's side so far. But he hasn't found the net since notching Wigan's winner over Bolton Wanderers on December 28th. Zaki's compatriot and Wigan teammate Mido was not eligible to play against Middlesbrough, the club he left to join Wigan on loan in the January transfer window. The towering striker is already nursing a hamstring injury he sustained against Fulham earlier this month. Middlesbrough coach Gareth Southgate left Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Shawky out of the match's squad. Wigan remained seventh in the league table with 35 points while Boro's relegation fears were widened as they lie second from bottom on 23 points, two adrift of the safety zone.
