Mohamed Zidan came off the bench to score and help Dortmund salvage a 1-1 draw with local rivals Schalke in the Bundesliga on Friday. Schalke took the lead through a sublime effort from striker Kevin Kuranyi after 21 minutes. Kuranyi met Halil Altintop's cross from the right with a stunning acrobatic kick that left Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller with no chance. The introduction of Egypt forward Zidan at halftime made the difference for Jurgen Klopp's side. He drew Dortmund level nine minutes from time when Nelson Valdez laid off the ball for him inside the area to fire a powerful left-footed shot into the near top corner. Zidan almost gave the visitors all three points four minutes later when he raced clear on goal but his fierce drive was brilliantly blocked by Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer. The 27-year-old, who joined from Hamburg last summer, took his tally to five league goals this season, one short of Dortmund's top scorer Alexander Frei. The draw put Dortmund in eighth place of the league table with 32 points, one ahead of ninth-placed Schalke. Watch Kuranyi's goal Watch Zidan's goal
