Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by lower division side Cardiff City in the English FA Cup fourth round game played at Ninian Park on Sunday. The Gunners were totally outclassed by last year's finalists during the first half, and Joe Ledley and Paul Barry had real chances to open the score line for Cardiff. Arsenal improved a lot after the interval, but their possession superiority couldn't be transformed into any real goal scoring opportunities. Ross McCormack could have caused a massive upset late in the game but the Bluebirds' striker saw his effort hit the bar.
In the same round, Liverpool were held at home by Everton, as the Merseyside Cup derby ended in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. England defender Joleon Lescott gave Everton the lead after capitalizing on Tim Cahill's header from a right flank corner. In the 54th minute, Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard saved his team's cup run, as he scored following a clever flick from Fernando Torres. Similar to Arsenal and Cardiff, Liverpool and Everton will meet again for the fourth round replays, as dates will be set by the English FA later this week.
