Skipper John Terry headed a late winner as England claimed a 2-1 victory over Germany in an international friendly at the Olympiastadion on Wednesday. England coach Fabio Capello introduced a number of fringe players due to the absence of a host of regulars through injury. They produced a fine display to edge past Germany, who were missing Michael Ballack, Torsten Frings and Philipp Lahm. England took the lead through Matthew Upson midway through the first half. The West Ham defender took advantage of Rene Adler's failure to handle a corner to prod the ball home. A mix-up between Terry and England's substitute keeper Scott Carson allowed Patrick Helmes to level the score in the 63rd minute.
Lippi equals world record Chelsea defender Terry tried to shepherd the ball back toward Carson, but the West Bromwich guardian hesitated to give Helmes the chance to steal the ball and slot into an empty net. Terry made amends six minutes from time when he headed Stewart Downing's deep cross into the back of the net. Lippi Record Italy coach Marcello Lippi extended his unbeaten run while in charge of the Azzurri to 31 matches to equal the world record. The world champions settled for a 1-1 draw with Greece as Lippi matched the record of former Spain coach Javier Clemente and Argentina's Alfio Basile. Fanis Gekas put Greece ahead early in the second half but Bayern Munich hitman Luca Toni equalized five minutes later.
