Barcelona failed to register their first win of the season after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Racing Santander in the Primera Liga on Saturday. Argentinean prodigy Lionel Messi, who came on as a second-half substitute, opened the scoring in the 71st minute after converting a penalty. Jonathan Pereira leveled the score six minutes later when he diverted a free-kick past Victor Valdes and into the back of the net. Barca are yet to win under new coach Pep Guardiola, who took over at the club following the sacking of Frank Rijkaard. The Catalan giants slumped to a 1-0 away defeat to Numancia in the league opener. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid's flying start to their league campaign came to halt as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to 10-man Valladolid. Angel Dorado put Valladolid in front as early as the third minute. A Javier Baraja penalty in the 28th minute doubled their lead. Sergio Aguero pulled one back nine minutes after the restart but Valladolid held onto their lead to snatch a valuable win. Atletico kicked off their league campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Malaga.
