Bayern Munich will have to do without Franck Ribery when they open the defense of their Bundesliga crown on August 15th. The club said on their official website that Ribery hoped to return to action by early or mid-September. The French winger underwent an ankle surgery to repair a ligament tear in his left ankle last month. He sustained the injury during France's 2-0 defeat to Italy in a EURO 2008 group stage match. According to Bayern Munich, Ribery is likely to undergo a scheduled operation on Friday to remove a surgical screw inserted six weeks ago to stabilize the injured joint. The Bavarian giants host Mohamed Zidan's Hamburg in their Bundesliga opener next month.
