Emad Meteb said he wants to help Bristol City earn promotion to the Premiership next season, describing the move as "a very big step" in his career. The Egyptian international striker became the most expensive signing in City's history after completing a £1.5m move from Ahli. "I am happy to be here and I hope to give my best to Bristol City," Meteb said in an interview with the club's website. "I am a natural striker and I know all about Bristol City. I know the kind of supporters that are waiting to see me play. "I have to score goals for Bristol City and create them too. I want to help the club win promotion to the Premiership." Bristol City were on the brink of reaching the Premiership last season but lost to Hull City in the play-offs. Manager Garry Johnson said earlier Meteb was his number-one target as he plans to build on his side's impressive performances last season. Big Step Meteb has been keen on a move to Europe since helping Egypt win the African Cup of Nations 2006. He had a trial period with Egypt teammate Mohamed Shawky at Middlesbrough but coach Gareth Southgate wasn't impressed. Meteb then was linked with Russian side Saturn and Saudi giants Ittihad Jeddah but the 25-year-old forward opted to join Bristol City. "This is a very big step for me, from the Egyptian League to England," he said. "It has always been my dream to play in England. It is a very big and strong league and one that's seen around the world." Meteb conducted the interview through a translator and stressed that he will start learning English. "I am ready to learn English," he said. "I know some already and I can understand much of what people are saying. "But I struggle with my speech and don't want to make lots of mistakes. "It's important I learn English for my teammates and coaching staff so it is easier to communicate with them."
