French coach Claude Leroy has been hired as new Oman coach, the Gulf nation's football association announced on Wednesday. Leroy led Ghana to third place in the 2008 African Cup of Nations on home soil, but did not renew his contract with the Black Stars and eventually left his post in May. The 60-year-old has vast experience in managing national teams as he had spells with Cameroon (twice), Senegal, Malaysia, DR Congo and Ghana. Leroy's first challenge with the Asian side will be next year's Gulf Cup, where they finished runners-up in the previous two tournaments.
